Pathobiology of schizophrenia

Molecular & Cellular Therapeutics

Two PhD studentships are available, each relating to the pathobiology of schizophrenia. The appointees will join an active research group and our collaborative network to conduct behavioural and cellular studies on mice mutant for genes associated with risk for schizophrenia, under an SFI Principal Investigator award. Molecular genetic tools are now available to examine how genes interact with environmental factors to disrupt normal brain development and behaviour. The objective of the present research program is the phenotypic resolution of gene-environment and gene-gene interplay in mice containing mutations of schizophrenia risk genes. A multidisciplinary approach will employ behavioural, imaging and cellular techniques to elucidate gene - environment and gene - gene relationships in the context of putative schizophrenia endophenotypes.

Applicants should have or expect to attain a first or upper second class honours degree or a suitable postgraduate qualification in a subject related to neuroscience and should demonstrate an interest in research related to schizophrenia. The studentship includes an annual stipend based on IRCSET rates together with tuition fees.

UK : PhD Studentship in Robotic Abrasive Finishing Technology Development - University of Huddersfield

Applications are invited for a fully funded three-year full-time research studentship leading to a PhD. This studentship is fully funded by the University of Huddersfield and is open to UK, EU and overseas candidates. The studentship offers a stipend of £10,000.00 tax-free per year as well as payment of tuition fees. The successful candidate will work on a research project in the field of "Robotic Abrasive Finishing Technology Development" under the supervision of Dr. Xun Chen in the Centre for Precision Technologies - a world renowned centre of precision engineering.

The project will develop a new generation abrasive finishing technology which will combine both advantages of grinding and polishing to simultaneously achieve high efficiency materials removal as grinding and excellent surface quality as polishing. The successful candidate will work closely with industrial partners to apply the new techniques to aerospace, energy and biomedicine productions

The candidates should have a good degree in mechanical manufacturing engineering, materials science, physics or other related disciplines. The candidate with work experience in machining process monitoring and control, robotics and artificial intelligence will be an advantage. We are looking for outstanding, highly motivated individuals with relevant background to work in our multidiscipline team.

Germany : PhD Scholarship Environmental Economics & Earth System Modelling Hambur

Hamburg University (Germany) The International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling (IMPRS-ESM), in Hamburg, Germany, is a PhD program jointly offered by the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and the University of Hamburg.

The School comprises institutions and scientists from the broad field of Earth sciences, as well as from the economics and social sciences. The IMPRS-ESM contributes to the development, application and evaluation of a spectrum of Earth system models at different complexity and spatial and temporal scales.

The IMPRS-ESM offers several doctoral positions to outstanding students interested in interdisciplinary studies in the comprehensive field of Earth system research. Detailed information is available on our internet site www.earthsystemschool.de.

The PhD program is open to applicants holding the equivalent of a German Diplom or a Master's degree (with written thesis) in physics, geophysical sciences (incl. meteorology and oceanography), chemistry, ecology, mathematics, computer science, economics, or political science. UK : Blyth Scholars - Offering scholarships to Cambridge University

The Blyth Scholarships to Cambridge University provide graduating Canadian high school students, and first year University students, with the opportunity to gain admission and full funding to Pembroke College, Cambridge for their first degree.

The Scholarship funding
The Blyth Cambridge Scholarships are funded by Sam Blyth and Blyth Education. Sam Blyth was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge and The University of Paris and is Chair of Blyth Education in Toronto. The company is the leading provider in Canada of international high school programs.

About the scholarships
The Blyth Cambridge Scholarships are offered annually to Canadian high school graduates who wish to take their undergraduate degree at Cambridge University in England. The successful candidates will be granted admission to Pembroke College at Cambridge, full tuition for three years of undergraduate study, travel costs and a full living allowance.

Selection process
All applicants will receive notification of the receipt of their application to The Blyth Cambridge Scholarship Program on or before October 15th. Short listed candidates will be invited to a regional interview to be held in late October. Successful candidate(s) will be invited to attend a national interview in early November. Scholarship(s) will be awarded after the interview process. The scholar(s) will begin their study in Cambridge the following October. The decision of The Blyth Cambridge Scholarships Selection Committee will be final and not subject to appeal.

Eligibility

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant).
  • Full time student in their graduating year at an accredited Canadian secondary school.
  • Candidates must have shown academic excellence, intellectual depth, personal integrity and success beyond the high school level. These key requirements should be reflected in their grades and letters of recommendation.

Note :

CEGEP students are eligible for the scholarship.

International Baccalaureate students, Advanced Placements students or students that have national success in competitions or university level courses are at an advantage in the competition. Please note that the Blyth Cambridge Scholarship Program will be pleased to offer the AP courses free of charge to any outstanding candidates.
