EPSRC has funded a 4 year project on the prevention of wide-area blackouts in electricity networks through adaptive division of the networks. The project involves engineers and mathematicians at Durham, Edinburgh, and Southampton Universities. As part of this project there will be a funded 3.5 year PhD position in the OR/Optimization group in the Edinburgh University School of Mathematics. The funding will cover support and fees for EU and UK students and support and part funding of fees for non-EU students.
