UK : PhD studentship - Dietetics, Nutrition and Biological Sciences Food aesthetics, nutrient composition and density and food intakes

Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh is a research led institution specialising in high quality research that touches people’s everyday lives. The School of Health Sciences offers a wide range of programmes in the allied health professions and Nursing. It has strong links with health and social care practitioners locally and nationally.

The following funded studentship is now available, for a start date in January 2010:

Food aesthetics, nutrient composition and density and food intakes.

Research supervisory team: Dr Elaine Bannerman, Professor Isobel Davidson & Jacklyn Jones

This studentship will comprise of a series of experimental projects to explore the impact of food fortification to increase both energy and nutrient density of commonly consumed foods and fluids. It will also investigate the influence of different textures on appetite parameters (hunger and satiety), dietary and nutritional intakes. Identification of the optimal level and method of food fortification to maximise food and fluid intakes will be explored.

Candidates should possess an upper second classification BSc (Hons) degree or MSc qualification in dietetics or nutrition. Successful applicants will receive a bursary to support living costs and tuition fees will be waived.
