A PhD studentship is now available in the Aerodynamics & Flight Mechanics Research Group (AFM), School of Engineering Sciences (SES), which fully covers University tuition fees (at EU/UK level**) and provides a tax-free bursary of £12,900 per year, rising annually in line with the UK Government (EPSRC) recommended rate, for a 3-year duration. ** EU/UK fees £3300 p.a., overseas fee £13,480 p.a. (all figures subject to increase). Overseas applicants will be required to provide the fees difference of £10,180 from other sources.
The project is related to airframe noise and aerodynamics. The aim of the project is to establish an aerodynamic and aero-acoustic model of an important component of a large civil aircraft and will involve mainly computational modelling. The student will also have the opportunity to use/develop advanced predictive methods based on computational fluid dynamics to simulate aerodynamics, aero-acoustics and turbulent flows associated with civil aircraft. He/she will explore relevant problems in the aerospace industry.
The PhD studentship will provide good opportunities to work with one of the largest aerospace companies in the world. The project is supported by Airbus who will provide funding and focus to the project.
SES is a top 5* rated research school with an international reputation. The successful candidate will work with a group of highly motivated, first class research students in the areas of computational aeroacoustics, engine noise and airframe noise, race car aerodynamics and flow control. Entry requirements: The studentship is available to someone with a first class or upper second class degree in mathematics, aeronautics or engineering disciplines. The studentship is at the standard EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) rate, commencing on 1 October 2008.
