Department of Psychology
The Dept of Psychology at the University of Limerick invites applications for a three year PhD studentship commencing September 2008. This newly established department has a strong emphasis on social psychology and provides a vibrant, research-focused environment for promising doctoral students. The successful applicant will undertake research into social identity processes underpinning public national commemorative events. Applicants should have or expect to receive at least an upper second honours degree in psychology and have demonstrable interest in social psychology. A good grounding in psychological research methods is essential and experience in conducting qualitative research and/or experimental research is desirable. Selection will be made on academic merit.
The studentship will be part of a wider research program: Embodying Imagined Communities: The Role of Collective Participation in the Transformation of Irish identities. This is an interdisciplinary collaboration between social psychologists and social anthropologists based at the University of Limerick, Queen's University Belfast and St Andrew's University and is funded bilaterally by the ESRC and the IRCHSS. The studentship is worth €16,000 per year, plus payment of full registration fees.
