p53 Research Studentship with Sir David Lane’s Cancer Research - UK Cell Transformation Research Laboratories
Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is strongly associated with the development of anogenital neoplasia, particularly cervical cancer. We have identified a series of novel bioactive small molecules that activate p53 and decrease tumour growth in vivo. The successful student will work under the supervision of Dr Sonia Lain and Professor Sir David Lane to determine the effects of these compounds on cells derived from tumours carrying HPV and evaluate their potential use in the treatment of HPV-related diseases. The studentship is funded by CR-UK for up to 4 years and provides an excellent opportunity to work in laboratories with an international reputation in the study of the molecular basis of cancer. Applications are invited from well-motivated candidates with at least an upper second class honours degree in a relevant discipline. Candidates with Masters degrees are also encouraged to apply. An ability to demonstrate practical skills in cell or molecular biology would be an advantage. The studentship pays tuition fees at UK/EU rate plus a maintenance stipend of £14,900 per annum. Non-EU applicants will have to fund the difference between home and oversees tuition fees themselves.
