Required education/skills:University Graduate
Additional job requirements for PhD candidates: You have recently obtained a Master’s degree in theology, religious studies, philosophy or arts. You are able to prepare a doctoral thesis on theory of religion and culture or on systematic theology. The subject matter requires an excellent command of English and German. Candidates who are about to receive their Master’s degrees may also apply. Additional job requirements for postdocs: You have a PhD degree in theology, religious studies or philosophy or arts. You have sufficient and proven expertise in the field to be explored by the intended research project. The subject matter requires an excellent command of English and German. You should also have publications to your name in the field of research covered by the project. You have experience in drawing up research proposals for indirect government and external funding.

Together with the research programme entitled 'The Problem of Divine and Human Agency in a Scientific Worldview', the research programme 'Evil, Modernity and the Making of Tradition: Reflecting the Shoah' is part of the Heyendaal research programme, in which interdisciplinary research is being conducted on the intersection of theology and other scientific disciplines. This research contributes to clarifying the roles and significance of theology and the other disciplines vis-à-vis each other and in contemporary culture. The Heyendaal programme is subdivided into two main fields of research: “theology and humanities” and “theology and natural sciences”. It is part of the Research Institute for Religious Studies and Theology, the research institute of the Faculty of Religious Studies and the Faculty of Theology. The successful candidates will be working in the group associated with the chair of theory of religion and culture (chair holder: Prof. Dr. G. Essen).

Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 4.284
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract:
Maximum hours per week: 60
Additional conditions of employment:
The term of the contract will depend on the commencement date, but will not extend beyond January 1st, 2012. In accordance with university policy, PhD candidates will in principle be offered an employment contract for 18 months. Upon positive assessment, the contract will be renewed for the intended term. The university has a total of 1.5 FTEs available for these positions. The postdoctoral position will involve a 0.5 FTE part-time appointment; the PhD candidate will be employed full-time.
