Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the field of health psychology and patient safety. This studentship represents an exciting opportunity to conduct research as part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, health researchers and psychologists from Bradford Institute of Health Research and the University of Leeds. The studentship is funded by the Institute for Health Research at Bradford Royal Infirmary and will attract an annual stipend of £12,600 in addition to tuition fees.
The studentship will focus on the response and coping of staff who make medical errors, although the specific topic and study design will be decided by the student together with the supervisory team. The student will be based at the University of Leeds and supervised by Dr Rebecca Lawton (Senior Lecturer in Health Psychology) with co-supervision at the Bradford Institute for Health Research, Bradford. The research will involve both qualitative and quantitative work. There will also be the opportunity to develop and test interventions.
Students who have, or are expected to attain, a 1st or 2.1 class honours degree in Psychology or cognate discipline are invited to apply. A relevant Master's degree is desirable. The 3-year PhD studentship, will take effect from October 2008. The studentship will require travel between the University location and Bradford. Data collection is likely to involve staff and patients at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
