The Philosophy Department of Tilburg University has an opening for a PhD position in any of the fields of practical philosophy, including ethics (both fundamental and applied), political philosophy, and legal philosophy.

The candidate has a (research) master in Philosophy. The candidate has a strong interest in doing research, excellent writing skills, a good command of English and a proven interest in themes relevant to practical philosophy.

The Faculty of Humanities conducts scientific research and education in the fields of communication and information sciences, philosophy, theology and religious studies, and language and culture studies. The faculty features four departments, several research institutes and a faculty bureau. Each year around 275 students commence a Bachelor or (Pre) Master Programme. The Faculty has approximately 1200 students and 250 employees.
Department of Philosophy
The Department is an inspiring and stimulating centre for philosophical study and research. The undergraduate and graduate students are provided with first-rate expertise across, and thorough training in, a wide variety of philosophical fields ranging from logic, epistemology and philosophy of science to ethics, social, legal and political philosophy, to philosophical anthropology and the philosophy of culture. All members of the department share a common interest in the relation between man, society and rationality, which is also the focal point of research and study of the university as a whole. Accordingly, the Department actively engages in a variety of interdisciplinary research projects with other faculties at Tilburg University (especially Economics and Business Administration, Law, and Social and Behavioural Science) and elsewhere. Moreover, Tilburg University has recently established the Tilburg Centre for Logic and Philosophy of Science (TiLPS).
Conditions of employment
Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2000 - 2500
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2441
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 3 years
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
The selected candidates will start with a contract for one year, concluded by an evaluation. Upon a positive outcome of the first-year evaluation, the candidate will be offered an employment contract for two years. The option of a fourth year could be possible.
