Job description
Function title: PhD researcher social security, labour market and the life course
The research will focus on the effects of social security on labour market behaviour. More in particular the impact of modern life course policies will be investigated. An important question relates to the conditions under which life course arrangements will increase labour force participation, for example by facilitating life long learning or by lowering search costs after a period of non-participation. The research is part of a larger project on social security, labour market and the life course, in which researchers from a legal and economics background co-operate. In total the research group consists of 5 Phd researchers and two post docs.
Research will be embedded in USE’s Tjalling Koopmans Instituut (TKI). TKI offers a structured training programme, which the candidate is expected to complete.
Requirements
Required education/skills:University Graduate
The ideal candidate for this position has good analytical skills and a sound knowledge of economic theory. The PhD student combines an interest in applied research with an interest to work in an interdisciplinary group of researchers and can communicate with a non-technical audience. Given de research focus, fluency in Dutch is required. Highly qualified students that will shortly obtain a Master’s degree are also encouraged to apply.

Conditions of employment
Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2500 - 3000
Salary: scale 10.
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2558
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 4 years
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
We offer a temporary employment of 1.0 fte (four years) in a stimulating research climate and an enjoyable working environment in the inner-city of Utrecht, the Netherlands. The appointee is expected to complete all requirements for the PhD degree within this period. The salary for a full time appointment is € 2,000.- gross per month in the first year and is expected to increase to € 2,558- in the fourth year, contingent on a satisfactory performance. Good secondary benefits.
