The candidates are expected to perform research in an area of Mathematics represented in the Mathematical Institute. The research is expected to lead to a dissertation after four years. The candidate will also participate in the education program of the department of Mathematics (max 15% of the time).

The faculty of Science consists of six departments: Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Information en Computing Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry and Mathematics. The Faculty of Science has about 2000 employees and about 3500 students.
The Mathematical Institute hosts about 25 tenured staff, 25 PhD students and 10 postdocs. The number of students (graduate and undergraduate) is about 300. The institute has the ambition to cover a broad range of active areas of research. In this way we aim for a stimulating research environment with ample opportunity for interaction between different fields of mathematics and other research area’s. The research of the institute covers parts of algebra, analysis, geometry (including number theory, algebraic geometry, dynamical systems, numerical analysis and statistics), and the history of mathematics as well as mathematical aspects of physics, biology and economics. Conditions of employment
Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2500 - 3000
Salary: scale 10.
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2558
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 4 years
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
The candidate is offered a full-time position for 4 years. The salary is in the range between € 2,000.- and € 2,558.- gross per month. The salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 6,4% per year. In addition we offer: a pension scheme, a partially paid parental leave, flexible employment conditions in which you may trade salary for vacation days or vice versa. Conditions are based on the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities. The research group will provide the candidate with necessary support on all aspects of the project.
