Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter
AMSTERDAM, 1009 DB (Noord-Holland), 38 hours per week
Job description
In the group Resonant Nanophotonics we are looking for a PhD student to realize nanoscale control over plasmon antenna enhanced light sources using scanning probe microscopy. Plasmon antennas of nanoscale metal particle arrays can enhance the directionality, efficiency, and rate of spontaneous emission of (single) emitters, which is of key interest for quantum optics, quantum cryptography and improved light sources. Control over these emission properties requires optimized subwavelength antenna design, successful fabrication using nanoscale lithography, and optimum nanoscale placement of the emitters relative to the plasmon antennas. The goal of this research is to manipulate the emitter-antenna coupling by attaching the emitter to a very fine tip, and controllably positioning the emitter relative to coupled plasmonic or metamaterial antenna structures with nanometer resolution.
The position is intended as full-time (38 hrs / week, 12 months / year) appointment in the service of Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM) for the duration of four years. After successful completion of the PhD research a PhD degree will be granted at a Dutch University. Several courses are offered, specially developed for PhD-students. AMOLF assists any new foreign employees with housing and visa applications and compensates their transport costs and furnishing expenses.
