Europe : 10 PhD Scholarships In Forests, Nature And Society

The School of Environment, Natural Resources and Geography is part of a consortium that has been awarded funding from the EC Erasmus Mundus programme which will provide scholarships for a European PhD in Forests, Nature and Society (FONASO) from 2010.

The FONASO programme is offered by a consortium of seven universities:

(i) University of Copenhagen, Denmark (Coordinators), (ii) Bangor University, UK (iii) Dresden University of Technology, Germany(iv) AgroParisTech, France, (v) University of Padova, Italy (vi) Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Alnarp, and (vii) University of Gottingen, Germany. The Universities will work in research partnership with (i) Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), Indonesia,

(ii) University of British Columbia, Canada, (iii) James Cook University, Australia, (iv) World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), Kenya, and (v) Dalhoff Larsen & Hornemann, Denmark.

The FONASO Programme is a fully integrated three-year doctorate programme. It builds on existing research schools and environments, taking the best from each to build up joint supervision, activities and doctoral candidate courses. Each doctoral candidate will stay two years with a principal supervisor and one year with a co-supervisor. Doctoral candidates obtain either a joint degree or double degree depending on mobility track. The language of the Programme is English. There is one annual call for applications; short-listed applicants are invited to Europe to present and discuss their proposals.

Applications must be received no later than 16 November 2009.

Short-listed candidates are notified by 1 December 2009. Interviews in Europe will take place in mid January 2010. Study start from summer/autumn 2010.
