Netherlands:PhD position 'Patterning of silicon surfaces' Agrotechnology & Food Sciences Group Organic Chemistry

Job description
The patterning of silicon surfaces on a nanometer-scale with the aim to obtain biofunctionalized wafers is of great interest with regard to the development of novel biosensors and electronic circuits. The aim of the project is to achieve this in two ways: a) using laser beam lithography patterns will be made using high-end wafer-steppers from ASML. b) using a combination of mild, visible light-induced attachment developed in our laboratory, and contact printing. For part a) a close collaboration with ASML, the world's leading provider of lithography systems for the semiconductor industry (www.asml.com), is planned.
The project is part of a cluster of projects funded by MicroNed (www.microned.nl), and involves a variety of contacts between different academic and industrial partners.

Requirements
Required education/skills:University Graduate
MSc. in organic/inorganic chemistry or a closely related field. Experience with (in-)organic synthesis, lithography and surface characterization is a plus.

AFSG is the organisation for development and transfer of knowledge in the field of sustainable applications of agro-components for safe and healthy food and non-food products.

The chair group Organic Chemistry (www.orc.wur.nl) focuses on the design and investigation of functional (bio-)organic materials and specifically functionalised surfaces. The group works together with, amongst others, ASML, NXP and Friesland Foods.
The group consists of around 25 PhD students and post docs, a permanent staff of 10 scientific and technical employees, one full professor, and two part-time professors with external expertise.

Conditions of employment
Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2500 - 3000
Salary: scale 10.
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2558
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: 1,5 2,5 years
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
We offer you a full-time position for 4 years in an enthusiastic research group. Initial contract period is 18 months. Extension to 4 years follows after a positive evaluation. Gross salary per month €2000 in the first year rising to € 2558 per month in the fourth year.
