UK: Buckinghamshire New University MPhil / PhD Opportunities

Research Centre for Society & Health

There are a number of PhD studentships currently available within the Research Centre for Society & Health in the areas identified below.

Students can register at any time for a full- or part-time MPhil/PhD degree. There are a limited number of Research Bursaries available for full-time students. Bursary funding includes tuition fees, a maintenance bursary of £7,500, appropriate training costs and expenses associated with the project.

You are eligible if you have a 2:1 degree or equivalent professional qualification or a Master's degree in a related subject. An overseas student will need to have an IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 570 (paper) and 230 (computer).

You will undertake a specific project in one of the following areas:

  • Use of a major dataset on cardiovascular variables to examine the outcomes of advice provided by a private medical company (PhD, full- or part-time).
  • Development of existing work on cardiac rehabilitation in heart failure concentrating on novel biomarkers (MPhil or PhD, full- or part-time).
  • Measurement of hydration status in heart failure (PhD full- or part-time).

Prof. Brodie can be contacted on 01494 605128 or through his assistant on 01494 522141 ext. 2203. Suitable candidates will be invited to the Research Centre to meet staff and students.

Following a telephone discussion with Prof. Brodie, you will be sent a postgraduate application pack. Each applicant is required to:

  • Submit two academic references.
  • Write up to 2500 words giving an outline of how you will undertake the research, your current knowledge and skills that will enable you to complete the research, your training needs and an indication of anticipated problems. The research proposal will be discussed fully before you complete the form with at least one of your potential supervisors.
  • Following a review of your full application form and references you will be invited for a formal interview which will include a member of staff unfamiliar with your project (independent assessor).
