‘Relative Sea Level Change in the Forth and Tay Estuaries: Past Changes Informing Future Trends'
Stipend: £12,900 in 2008/9
Forth Ports PLC is funding this project to investigate how to piece together diverse sources of tidal information to generate a long-term record with the ultimate aim of identifying a relative sea level trend in the Forth and Tay Estuaries of eastern Scotland. This will permit the role of perceived climate and isostatic changes to be decoupled from independent tidal controls such as the lunar cycle. The project will be jointly supervised by Professor Rob Duck and Dr Derek McGlashan. Applicants are sought for this three year studentship (one year MPhil in the first instance with extension subject to satisfactory performance) from those who hold or expect to obtain a Masters degree or a First/Upper Second Class Honours degree in an appropriate area of Physical Geography, Earth Science, Oceanography or a related discipline. Potential candidates should be able to demonstrate a high level of numeracy.

The studentship will begin in September 2008 and pay Home/EU tuition fees and a stipend equivalent to research council rates.
