False performance: unethical behaviour in performance evaluation and work relationships

Applications are invited for a fully-funded, full-time, three year studentship to undertake research examining false performance as an unethical behaviour in varied work settings across differing levels of organisations. False performers or organisational charlatans are individuals who seek to improve their perceived performance at the expense of their actual performance. Such individuals would attempt to disguise their behaviour to obtain positive advantages from the organisation via their superiors in terms of performance evaluation, work performance and general positive image which is often beyond their actual delivery.
The specific aim of the research will be to investigate (a) the extent to which this behaviour is widespread, (b) produce an instrument to measure it and (c) assess the potential challenges it poses for performance evaluation and other work relationships.
The student will carry out a research project that will lead to the award of a higher research degree (MPhil/PhD) and will be expected to conceptualise and research an individual study under the direction of Dr. Gbola Gbadamosi.

Applicants must possess at least an upper second class honours degree in Business or relevant area of Applied Psychology. An MA or MSc. qualification will be advantageous.
The successful applicant will receive a tax free bursary of £12,300 per annum plus an expenses budget. Fees will be paid in full at the UK/EU rate for home and EU citizens. Overseas students are welcome to apply but will need to fund the balance of fees for Overseas Research Students.
