Job description
Function title: PhD position Pharmaceutical, Medical or Life Sciences
at the research group Pharmacokinetics and Drug Delivery for a project granted by STW ‘New opportunities for ADME and toxicity studies for drugs in human tissue: vitrification of organ slices’. This project will be part of the research line ‘Prediction of metabolism, transport and toxicity of drugs in human tissue in vitro’ and aims to elucidate the causes and the nature of cell injury in vitrified tissue, using among others DNA array analysis. Based on this analysis a new method for cryopreservation will be developed and applied on tissue slices of human organs. This research will contribute to the reduction of the use of experimental animals.
Requirements
Required education/skills:University Graduate
The candidate should have a master degree in pharmaceutical, medical or life sciences. Experience or a strong interest in learning biostatistical analysis of DNA array data is highly appreciated. We are looking for an enthousiastic and creative team player, who is interested to perform research in a multidisciplinary setting.

The Pharmacokinetics & Drug Delivery research group consists of ca. 25 staffmembers and is part of the Department of Pharmacy and the graduate school GUIDE of the University of Groningen. The project is a collaboration between the University of Groningen, NV Organon and 21 Century Medicine. A full time technician will work on the project.
Conditions of employment
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2558
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: Four years
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
The University of Groningen offers a salary of € 2000 gross per month in the first year up to a maximum of € 2558 gross per month in the fourth year. The duration of the contract is four years full time, and the candidate is expected to complete a thesis within this period. After one year, the performance of the candidate will be evaluated to decide whether there is sufficient progress to expect a successful completion of the PhD thesis within the remaining three years.
