Erasmus University Rotterdam
Rotterdam, (Zuid-Holland), 38 hours per week
Job description
Function title: Scientific researcher/PhD candidate
We are looking for a candidate with a strong interest for sustainable development and corporate social responsibility. Your job is to prepare and conduct academic research in the area of “Corporate governance and trust in Europe: A legal and economic perspective”. The process of European Unification develops steadily, but is hindered by national interests that discuss the question on how to secure the safety and security in the local economy. With growing tensions over both globalisation and regionalisation, traditional systems of regulation are being subjected to growing pressure for reform. While states continue to play a significant, if changed, role in the future, the importance of players from business and civil society is increasing. This change requires intensive research on sustainable development in the private sector.
The important economic question to be studied is whether a companies’ financial system, in which the interests of shareholders and other stakeholders are aligned, will improve societal wealth. A stakeholder approach in finance needs to be developed in order to proxy agency costs for a national economy in an attempt to improve sustainable development. In that approach expected risk and return estimates could be calculated not just for shareholders but also for important stakeholders like employees and taxpayers. The economic analysis has to be embedded in relevant national laws.
