Technische Universiteit Eindhoven Department of Applied Physics
Job description
The project involves the design, setup and analysis of experiments as well as numerical simulations concerning surfactant-induced transport at liquid-air and liquid-liquid interfaces in the presence of geometrical confinement and constraints. First, model systems using materials such as silicon and glass and high-purity fluids such as water and hexadecane will be considered before attempting to study the process with crude oil and natural rock.
Experimental techniques will involve optical interferometry, confocal microscopy and x-ray computed tomography. Numerical techniques will involve Stokes flow solvers and the lubrication approximation, as well as level-set, volume-of-fluid and diffuse-interface methods. It is anticipated that one candidate will focus on numerical modeling and simulations and the other candidate on corresponding experiments. The candidates will spend about 40% of their time at Shell, Rijswijk.
RequirementsRequired education/skills:University Graduate
Interested candidates possessing fluency in English and a Master’s degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent are encouraged to apply. Experience in fluid dynamics is highly desirable but not required.
