Job description
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) conducts international research in the fields of accounting, finance, management, economics and econometrics. It also provides academic courses in these areas. The UvA Business School and the UvA School of Economics form part of the FEB. The FEB currently has the following vacancy: PhD position in Accounting
The project is entitled: Accounting Standards, Corporate Governance and the Banking Industry.
During recent times the banking industry has been going through volatile times with most banking stock taking large declines. The proposed research will examine the performance of banks related to external governance by IFRS and internal governance by boards focused on the US and Western Europe companies. The research will contribute to the value relevance literature in capital markets and the role played by financial analysts and corporate insiders.

Conditions of employment
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: See below
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
The appointment will initially be for 18 months, to be extended to a total of 4 years upon excellent performance (an evaluation will be held after 14 months). The salary will be in accordance with the University regulations for academic personnel, and will range from € 2,000 (first year) up to a maximum of € 2,558 (final year) gross per month. The collective employment agreement of the Dutch universities will be applicable. The PhD thesis should be finalised within four years. In this period, the candidate will also be expected to do some teaching (20% of the time).

Requirements
Required education/skills:University Graduate
- Master's (MSc) in the area of accounting with excellent examination results in both course work and the MSc thesis component
- Completion of a conceptual course in international accounting standards at the Masters level
- A high standard of knowledge in econometrics
- Interest and experience in collecting large data bases
- Demonstrated mastery of both written and spoken English
- Conviction to complete the requirements toward a PhD degree within four years
