School of Chemistry
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the mass spectrometry group led by Dr Neil Oldham. The group focuses on the use of high-end mass spectrometry in solving chemical and biological problems.
This project is centred around the development of new methodologies to identify and quantify complex carbohydrates such as those produced from the digestion of cellulose. Such materials are a potential source of biofuels from the bi-products of food production and, as such, represent a highly efficient and attractive alternative to current biofuel supplies.
Students should have a 2.i or first class honours degree in chemistry or a related area.
This studentship will cover tuition fees to home/EU level and provides a stipend of £12,600 per annum. Overseas students are eligible to apply, but will be liable to pay the difference between home/EU and overseas fees.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr N Oldham, Email: Neil.Oldham@Nottingham.ac.uk.
Applications, with a detailed CV and the names and addresses of two referees, should be sent to Dr N Oldham, School of Chemistry, The University of Nottingham, University Park, Nottingham, NG7 2RD. Please quote ref. SCI/447.
This Studentship is open until filled.
