Australia: PhD Studentships in Plant Signalling Networks, Monash University

Three years PhD studentships are available within the Victorian College of Pharmacy to work in a research project funded by Australian Research Council (Discovery Projects). Stipend amount will be about AUD20008 p.a and will be paid fortnightly.

Interested candidates should have who have achieved Honours 1 (Semester 1), or Honours 2a or equivalent in the field of biological sciences or phyisiology.

Brief Project Description
The project will investigate plant signalling networks and is aimed to determin if enzyme guanylate cyclase (GC) functional domain is active and biological importance of the CG domain in plant growth and development. The enzyme GC forms cGMP which acts as a signalling molecule. In higher plants cGMP acts as a second messenger in many physiological processes. The realisation of the importance of cGMP in plants lead to a search for molecules capable of catalysing its formation. We identified and partially characterised the first molecules from higher plants with GC activity using a rationally designed search motif of the catalytic domain of annotated GCs.

To apply, you must go directly to the faculty. Application shall include CV, names and contact details of 2 referees to Helen Irving. Only Australian citizens or permanent residents will be considered.
